Bela and I are waiting to hear from two publishers on different books we have out for consideration. Like I say in the blog title, “Waiting is Hard.” It’s also instructive, reminding us to live in the present and not waste time grasping for things that may or may not come to pass.
I have been keeping busy and recently I attended a play reading group where I met a remarkable woman named Nancy Gottlieb. Nancy founded and runs a school for teaching English in Angola, Africa. I was amazed when I watched the many videos on her school’s Facebook page.
I was hugely impressed with the work Nancy is doing. From the pictures and videos you can see that her students are excited, engaged, and learning. So many of us (me included) talk about trying to make a difference in the world, and so few of us dedicate our lives as Nancy has done to the hard work required to make good things happen.
I am sharing a link to Nancy’s GoFundMe page that helps support her school. I have made a small donation and want to help her by sharing this information. Please consider donating to Nancy’s English School.
Bela and I just spent our weekend doing different things. I was at a Zen retreat on a farm in Rhode Island. I slept in a tent, hiked, meditated, and participated in five hundred miles of kinhin (walking meditation). Okay maybe it was somewhat short of five hundred miles, but it was a lot of walking, all over the farm.
Bela went to the No Kings march in Greenfield and was blown away by the number of people in attendance. She felt privileged to be part of the movement to save our democracy.
Happy Autumn and thanks for reading our blog and being a part of our lives.
